Plagiarism Policy
1. Definition of Plagiarism
“Plagiarism” refers to the unauthorized use, reproduction, or representation of another individual’s intellectual property—including text, data, figures, concepts, or creative work—without proper acknowledgment. It constitutes academic and professional misconduct and violates established ethical and legal standards. All authors are required to clearly identify borrowed material and cite sources according to the referencing style mandated by the Journal.
2. Scope of Policy
This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Innovative Developments in Engineering and Technology (IJIDET). As an indexed, peer-reviewed online journal, all submissions undergo plagiarism/similarity checks using Turnitin and PlagScan to ensure originality.
3. Prohibited Conduct
The following acts constitute plagiarism and are strictly prohibited:
- ✦ Verbatim Copying: Using text exactly as it appears in another work without quotation marks and citation.
- ✦ Improper Paraphrasing: Rewriting another person’s work with minor changes without proper attribution.
- ✦ Misappropriation of Ideas: Using the concepts, results, or data of others without acknowledging the original source.
- ✦ Digital Compilation: Copying content from internet sources and presenting it as original work.
- ✦ Submission of Third-Party Work: Presenting work prepared by another person or service, or failing to credit contributions in group work.
4. Categories of Plagiarism
4.1 Direct Plagiarism
Intentional duplication of another author’s work without citation.
4.2 Accidental Plagiarism
Unintentional failure to cite, improper quoting, or close paraphrasing due to negligence.
4.3 Self-Plagiarism
Reusing one’s previously published or submitted work without disclosure or permission.
4.4 Mosaic (Patchwork) Plagiarism
Borrowing phrases, terms, or structural elements while retaining the original meaning, without proper citation.
5. Investigation and Enforcement
IJIDET maintains strict academic standards. If plagiarism is detected, the Journal will notify the author(s) and request a formal explanation within 14 days. Cases are reviewed by the Fact-Finding Committee (FFC).
If no response is provided, or if plagiarism is confirmed, the matter may be escalated to the Director, Dean, Head of Institution, or Vice-Chancellor of the author’s affiliated organization.
6. Actions and Penalties
Upon confirmation of plagiarism, IJIDET may take one or more of the following actions:
- ✦ Notify the author’s affiliated institution for disciplinary action.
- ✦ Remove the plagiarized manuscript from the Journal’s website and disable all access.
- ✦ Label the withdrawn manuscript as “Plagiarized Manuscript” in the Journal database.
- ✦ Publish the names and details of the involved authors on the Journal website, if required.
- ✦ Implement any additional corrective measures recommended by the Fact-Finding Committee or the Editorial Board.
7. Statement of Commitment
IJIDET is firmly committed to upholding academic integrity and protecting intellectual property. The Journal reserves the right to take appropriate actions necessary to prevent, detect, and penalize plagiarism in order to safeguard the quality and credibility of scholarly publications.
